a giant ‘guide slab’ has been constructed alongside the motorway that will be used to slide a huge underpass into position later this year, using an innovative box slide engineering technique. The formation of the guide slab, which was cast in three phases during February and March, has been a complex operation involving 1,000m3 cubic meters of concrete. (That’s equivalent to around 4,000 bathtubs of water)
As part of the construction programme, four OVERNIGHT closures are needed on the A32 near M27 Junction 10, starting on Tuesday 29 April, from 9pm to 6am. This is to allow BT to undertake essential cabling diversion work.
The closures are:
Tuesday 29 April and Wednesday 30 April 2025:
A32 northbound closure and westbound exit slip road closure heading towards A32 Wickham – see the diversion route plan Google map
Thursday 1 May and Friday 2 May 2025:
A32 southbound closure and eastbound entry slip road closure heading towards Fareham / Portsmouth: see the diversion route plan Google map
Improvements are being made to support the development of Welborne Garden Village, a new community of up to 6000 homes just outside Fareham in Hampshire and to provide easier access to the M27 at this location. Hampshire County Council is delivering the scheme, working closely with National Highways. The scheme is being funded by Buckland Group, the developer of Welborne Garden Village and by Homes England.
